Children's Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Mental Health and Wellbeing logo

Sometimes professionals can see safeguarding in a too narrow sense, whereby they only consider the child protection element of this - preventing and responding to children who are at risk of or who have experienced abuse and neglect. Whilst this is, of course, a vital component of safeguarding, safeguarding practice is much wider than this and includes the range of actions we take to promote and ensure the wellbeing of ALL children. Indeed, within the definition of safeguarding it states that we must prevent the impairment of children’s health or development (Working Together to Safeguard Children, DfE), which of course includes their mental health and wellbeing. Therefore, the materials and training on our MHWB portal, are extremely pertinent and relevant to schools’ safeguarding responsibilities and practice.

SafeguardED and Mental Health and Wellbeing

'The link between mental health and wellbeing and safeguarding is quite obvious. Mental health and supporting that of children is an integral part of safeguarding practice.'
Alex Dave - LGfL Safeguarding Education Officer

At LGfL we have a dedicated Safeguarding team, SafeguardED, that provides support to DSLs, SLT, staff, governors, students & parents on all safeguarding topics. Most of the services we provide are free to all schools, and this includes an extensive range of training, template policies, resources to use with pupils, a parent portal and much more.
