Introduction to USO-FX2

Teacher tools area

USO-FX2 (File exchange) provides staff in LGfL schools with a secure (encrypted) process for online transfers of potentially sensitive or secure information across otherwise insecure broadband infrastructures.

Full audit trail

A fundamental feature of USO-FX2 is that the movement of all documents uploaded into the transfer system is tracked via the USO account identity of both the initial document provider and also the end recipient(s).

As standard, USO-FX2 is supplied with a total storage allocation nominally equal to 20MB per school. The file store is backed up on a nightly basis to protect against disaster or other incurred loss of current documents.

Why LGfL Schools Love USO-FX2

USO-FX2 comfortably meets our need for a reliable and cost-effective means of sending documents securely between the LA, our schools and our professional partners. Since it uses USO for authentication, the interface and login procedure are already familiar to most users. For additional security we also use second factor authentication, which is built-in, through one-touch password devices.

We wanted a service that could be used to send secure documents to groups of people without necessarily knowing who they all are in advance. Using USO-FX2, documents may be sent to groups matching certain criteria, such as, say, all Chairs of Governors, or even deputy heads that have responsibility for SEN.

To us, an audit trail for transferring important documents is essential. With USO-FX2, every stage in the life of the document being transferred is logged for auditing purposes.

We also needed a system that’s easy to use by partner professionals in external agencies. To start using USO-FX2 with a new non-LA professional partner, such as an independent early years provider, we simply request the creation of a new account, which normally happens well within 24 hours.

We have even found USO-FX2 useful within a single organisation, where the superior tracking and auditing capabilities make it easy to monitor who has, and hasn’t, accessed an important document!

I recommend the USO-FX2 service to any LA looking for a managed solution in the area of secure document transfer.
