What is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?
Data Protection legislation is currently going through a period of change. The introduction of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the basis of change and has been applied from 25 May 2018 by The Data Protection Act 2018. Data Protection Officer
LGfL has appointed a DPO who can be reached at dataprotectionenquiries@lgfl.net. The LGfL DPO fulfils a number of roles, one of which is to be the primary and independent point of contact for Data Controllers, Data Subjects and the ICO.
What does GDPR mean for me?
The rights that individuals have about how their personal data is handled and stored are being changed and enhanced. You can find out about the GDPR rights on the ICO website and these are also outlined in our Privacy Notice.
Personal Data
The new law will apply only to ‘personal data’. You can find out more about personal data and the new GDPR regulations on the ICO website. To ensure that this data is kept secure, the LGfL has a sophisticated framework of protective measures for the security of information and the availability of systems and services.
LGfL's Commitment under the GDPR
LGfL’s commitment will be to ensure that the data is:
Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner;
Collected for a specific and legitimate purpose. It will not be used for anything other than this stated purpose;
Relevant and limited to whatever the requirements are for which they are processed;
Accurate, and where necessary, kept up to date. Any inaccuracies will be amended or removed without undue delay;
Stored for as long as required; and
Secured with appropriate solutions, which protect the data against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage.
The LGfL will demonstrate its compliance with these principles.
LGfL’s commitments to processing personal data lawfully
LGfL will ensure that it meets the conditions necessary for processing personal data lawfully and will ensure this is adequately recorded. The LGFL provides a number of services to schools and Local Authorities and the lawful basis for processing personal data depends upon the particular service being used.
