USO - Unified Sign-On

A short film to explain how the move to LGfL Unified Sign On (USO) can benefit the whole school community and helps ensure that full use of LGfL 2.0 services are achieved.

  • Free to all LGfL 2.0 connected schools
     
  • ​A single username and password for every student and member of staff in London, granting access to all supported LGfL resources
     
  • Usernames which are retained as users move between schools in an authority
     
  • Straight-forward account management via a secure web-based management interface
     
  • Shibboleth® services included
     
  • Supports synchronisation with Windows Active Directory for consistent authentication at LAN and WAN levels
     
  • A home directory is created for every user, with network sharing and setting of appropriate permissions handled automatically

​A single login to all your LGfL services is now included in the cost of your broadband. The LGfL USO will enable you to access your email, MLE, content and a range of other services with the same username and password. In the future, all access to LGfL services will only be via the LGfL USO.

HOW DO I GET MY LGfL USO?

There are 3 simple steps:

  1. Check who your nominated contact is
  2. Request your USO login from them
  3. Await your username and password

The USO is a fully authenticated and secure login, only given to staff and pupils by nominated users. If you are the nominated user of a school or LA and want to know more, see our guides below.

The range of resources accessible through the London Grid for Learning and National Education Network is continually growing, as new collections of educational content are added, and major new facilities such as the London MLE (powered by Fronter), StaffMail and LondonMail are deployed.

Many LGfL resources require password-authenticated access, whether to track the academic progress of students, store user preferences, or control and monitor service usage. Naturally, users would much rather have a single username and password which grants access to all resources instead of separate credentials for each service, and this is the aim of Unified Sign-On (USO).
