Making Headway This one day course is designed for headteachers who feel that their levels of personal ICT skills inhibit their leadership and management role, subsequently impairing their confidence and ability to embrace the significant potential (and challenge) ICT presents schools and their leaders. The course boosts ICT skills and understanding, but will also raise awareness of what is available for headteachers in the ICT area. This will include information on the SLICT programme and the London Grid for Learning. Making Headway with ICT is delivered by two tutors, who have considerable expertise in training school leaders in a variety of personal ICT skills. One is a current SLICT and NPQH tutor delivering to prospective and established headteachers and managing online communities. The other is the E-learning Facilitator for the London Centre for Leadership in Learning. In his role, he manages the e-learning environments for the NPQH, LFTM, and CSBM for the London region. The course brings together colleagues at a similar skills level, in a non-threatening environment. Participants receive coaching, support and advice on a group and individual basis. It is a full one-day course with one month online support following this day. The focus is on:
- Improving individual ICT ‘fitness’ within an educational context (including managing files efficiently, producing effective presentations file management, using PowerPoint, enhancing documents in Word, using Excel spreadsheets, using shortcuts to increase efficiency, keeping a computer ‘healthy’)
- Introduction to SLICT ( including how the course operates and the purpose of it)
- Introduction to LGfL
- ICT futures
- Where ICT is going and why use ICT within school
