  • challenging with regards to the fact that every case we analyse is different therefore you need to apply your knowledge at all times
  • the variety of cases (cancers, infections) we encounter makes the job interesting
  • working with the same colleagues all the time which makes life easier from a deaf perspective. working with the same team of people thus you get to build up a good rapport with your colleagues and don’t need to deal with the general public (no phones or contact with the patients at all – we essentially work ‘behind the scenes’)
  • the sense of fulfillment that comes with diagnosing difficult cases

What do you not like about your job?

  • can spend hours on the microscope without finding anything of interest
  • the meetings where we discuss interesting cases – obviously they are difficult to follow from a deaf perspective
  • missing out on all the workplace gossip!!
