Ways to use London’s Learning

London’s Learning builds on the thinking of a group of London colleagues with responsibility for leading and co-ordinating continuing professional development in London schools and LAs.

London’s Learning aims to enhance the knowledge, skills and understanding of those supporting professional learning by:

  • highlighting issues relevant to London’s professional learning communities
  • sharing practice which is meeting the challenges of professional learning in London schools
  • connecting London practice to national guides and other regional toolkits which have been published.

This resource is not intended to be a manual or a guide to the best or right way to support the professional development of staff. It captures how CPD leaders across London are finding ways to support CPD and connects these examples with other key resources to build a more coherent picture of the support available to develop the leadership of CPD in London.

London’s Learning is intended:

  • to help colleagues in London to articulate a vision of the leadership of CPD that is right for their school and LA.
  • to be a working document that can be used, changed and modified to be in line with the specific needs of each organisation.  Apart from the few PDF files, all text and images can be changed by the user and permission is given to do so as long as the source is acknowledged as London's Learning, DfES 2005.

Ways in which London's Learning may be used:

  • key aspects highlighted on school and LA websites
  • CPD leaders in an LA network share policies, practices and examples of practice around the seven principles
  • CPD leader uses the Diagnostic framework to develop an action plan for CPD
  • Diagnostic framework can be used by a group of CPD leaders as a basis for a learning walk to each others’ schools
  • CPD leader uses Diagnostic framework with team leaders and other key staff to audit aspects of the professional learning culture in the school.
  • CPD leaders share practice and ideas in the online London’s Learning community
