PRINCIPLE 3 : CPD, School Improvement and Performance Management

CPD, Performance Management and School Improvement are fully integrated.

All teaching staff participate in a Performance Management process and an annual review meeting which meets statutory requirements.

The school has made a commitment to include all staff in a professional review process and has plans in place to achieve this.

All staff participate in an ongoing Performance Management process which is given high priority in terms of staff time.

Generic job profiles are in place.

All staff have a professional portfolio which includes a job profile, relevant national standards on competencies and their Performance Management objectives. Staff are encouraged to keep evidence of achievement.

All staff are responsible for a professional portfolio which includes a job profile, relevant standards, Performance Management objectives linked to School Improvement, an individual learning plan, and evidence of impact on teaching and learning.

Classroom observations are included in the Performance Management process.

Classroom observations and effective feedback processes are included within the Performance Management process.

Work practice / classroom observations and strategies for monitoring and effective feedback are included within the Performance Management process for all staff.

Team leaders are responsible for setting objectives and identifying basic training needs.

There is guided discussion to identify professional development linked to performance objectives and School Improvement plans and some matching to national standards and career plans.

All staff negotiate their professional development activity linked to performance management, school and team improvement plans and appropriate national standards and competencies and can describe how their professional development plan will impact on teaching and learning.

Teaching staff feedback on the value of performance review is variable.

The school is working to achieve greater consistency in the quality of the Performance Management process.

All team leaders are trained in the skills of Performance Management review, and monitoring of the process demonstrates procedures are of a consistently high quality across the staff.
