Nadal and Roddick ease through !!!

Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick progressed to the third round of the Masters Series event in Indian Wells with straight sets victories in their second round matches.

Nadal, seeded two, beat Arnaud Clement 6-3, 7-6 to set up a meeting with fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco while third seed Roddick will face Oliver Rochus after beating Feliciano Lopez 7-6, 6-4.

SHARAPOVA STRUGGLES THROUGH

Maria Sharapova continued her progress at the Pacific Life Open with a third round victory over Nathalie Dechy but once again she failed to convince.

The top seed, who has hardly played since losing to Serena Williams in the Australian Open final, looked as rusty as she had done in her second round win over Michaela Krajicek.

Again the Russian struggled with her serve and this time she looked affected by injury and illness, yet she showed a marked improvement in the second set as she won 7-5 6-2.

In searing heat, Sharapova looked troubled by a hamstring injury but she overcame it well and by the time to completed her win her groundstrokes were beginning to flow.
