Education must be a partnership between teachers, parents and pupils if it is to be fully successful. Hence, if a child is unhappy or worried about anything, however small or insignificant it may seem, they are less likely to produce their best at school. The parents’ first contact should always be with the class teacher. The school will endeavour to release a teacher for an emergency meeting with the parents, although an appointment would be preferable. Appointments can be made through the office or with the teachers directly, for a mutually convenient meeting with parents and member of staff. In either case, parents should report to the office first in the interest of security and safety.
We are confident that if your children are aware of the importance that you attach to their education and have your support and encouragement in the activities, interest and ideas, they are more likely to maintain an enthusiasm for their learning and will want to do their best.
A half-termly newsletter is sent home, giving details of term dates, educational and social events. Miscellaneous class information may be distributed to parents from time to time.
Parents’ Evenings are held in October and July in each academic year.
The Parents Association of Hampden Gurney supports the school with a variety of events and, in particular, by fund raising. All parents are automatically members of the association and the additional support from the parent community is highly valued by the school.
School Meals
School lunches are available at a reasonable price. Money should be in an envelope at the beginning of each week and must be given to the class teacher. If you think that you are eligible for free meals, please contact the office.
Packed lunches should be labelled clearly with the child’s name. All drinks must be in an unbreakable container for storage in the school fridge on arrival. No fizzy drinks are allowed.
We encourage children to eat a healthy packed lunch and an after school snack before extra-mural activities. Crisps, sweets and chocolates are discouraged. Pupils should bring in a bottle of water that they can consume during lessons.
Extra Curricular Activities
We offer a wide and varied timetable of before school, after school and lunchtime clubs. All age groups are able to take part in sports, academic or cultural clubs on a termly basis. A full timetable is sent home at the start of every term and is available on the school’s website.
