Staff

Every staff member at Hampden Gurney is dedicated to helping each pupil realise his or her full potential. Our Staff act as mentors for the pupils and relationships are developed that help pupils grow into intelligent, informed and responsible learners.

Hampden Gurney’s Staff are an international group. Many of our staff are at least bilingual and hold university degrees and/or equivalent professional qualifications.

Curriculum

It is our aim to deliver a secular curriculum within the context of the Christian aims and ethos of our foundation parish. We offer a broad, varied and balanced curriculum, which leads to high standards of achievement and attainment at every stage of our pupils’ learning. This curriculum framework incorporates the five elements of the Every Child Matters agenda, relevant for pupils aged 3-11 years. It is effectively organised yet flexible enough to cater for individual needs, interest, talent, gender and ability. Indeed, not only are the Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum achieved and exceeded at Hampden Gurney, we also actively encourage our pupils to discover and celebrate their natural talents, whether these are academic, sporting, artistic, musical or dramatic.

In the Early Years, we implement the Foundation Stage curriculum by fostering learning through imaginative well-structured play and first hand learning experiences giving young children the opportunity to explore and discover for themselves whilst developing skills of speaking and listening, numeracy, literacy, technological and scientific thinking, and creative aesthetic awareness.

In Key Stage 1 and 2 the core subjects English, Mathematics, Science and ICT, are taught as top priority. The foundation subjects include Humanities, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Physical Education and Sport, Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education, Music, Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Education.
