PTA News
Dear Parents and Carers
The PTA is holding a meeting on Tuesday 29th January to discuss events for 2008/2009 and would greatly value your input. If you have attended or heard of any fun and exciting fund raising events, then please come along and share your ideas. For example a Quiz Night, Race Night, Salsa Evening, Bingo Night, School Disco and any thing that will entertain as well as raise much needed funds.
We are going to fund a project that will improve the external play areas visually for our children and look forward to new and exciting fund raising events.
The Date will also be set for the Summer fair and a group of parents will be put together to coordinate this event.
We will be meeting at 7:30 at the Westside Church Hall on the corner opposite the Library and before reaching Wandsworth common.
Many thanks for your continued and much valued support.
Erica Watts
(Chair of PTA)

Duncan and Nessie Maclay have kindly designed a school calendar for the period commencing February 2008.
A proof was shown to the meeting and Veronica Bradbury will check all the dates on this including inset dates and refer back to Duncan and Nessie with any changes.
Caz Liebert suggested that a group of volunteers was organised to sell the calendars and this item will need action in due course. It was also suggested that calendars could be sold on Wednesday with uniforms in the school shed.
There will be an initial print run of 200 calendars.
11. Gazebos
No action has been taken on this matter since the last meeting and Erica Watts will chase it up with Sandra Emanuel.
12. Garden Project
Jo Veevers was being consulted on a landscape design project which would include workshops for the children, but in order to provide the PTA with a proposal she needed a nominal budget to work to. A sum of £10,000 was proposed to be funded 50/50 by the PTA and school. Jo Veevers will be asked to provide ideas based on this budget for further discussion by the PTA.
14. School Disco
Nikki Bradford said that at this stage a Valentine’s Disco would be unrealistic, however she and Angie Palethorpe would still be willing to organise a disco in March, should the PTA wish.
3. Treasurer’s Report
Liz Featherston reported that there was £19,000 in the bank account and that she had been in touch with the bankers to arrange for an interest bearing account to be set up to work in parallel with the deposit account.
LF is to be made a signatory on the PTA account and a full Treasurer’s Report will be submitted in due course.
Lou Colonna asked if all £19,000 was available to the PTA and LF said that she would check the expenditure on the account for last year to have a clearer idea over expenditure.
4. Christmas Fair feedback
EW and VB both expressed their delight with the success of the Christmas Fair and thanked the PTA and particularly the enthusiasm of the new members, for the hard work in getting off the ground at such short notice.
LF reported that she thought it had raised approximately £2,500 which as a return on investment comparison with previous Fairs which have raised around £4,000 was very impressive.
Sarah Flind-Henry said how much help and audience participation there had been. EW said that there had been masses of volunteering and a brilliant set up. The PTA particularly wished to express their thanks to Tess Hoblyn for her hard work on organising this event.
5. Dates for 2008 Meetings
These were not discussed. EW to meet with VB or TH to fix dates.
6. Events for 2008
SEE 14. above re. Disco
Christmas Cards.
LF raised the issue of Christmas Cards. Duncan Maclay said that he and Nessie produce about 10,000 cards each Christmas which are sold for £3.50 for packs of eight cards. Of this 35p is donated to charity.
Duncan expressed his willingness to produce Christmas cards for the school in 2008 and the possibility of producing individual cards of every pupil’s artwork/design was discussed as was that of one or two selected designs being used. It was agreed that Duncan and LF will look at the costs and revert to the PTA with their findings.
Fundraising in 2008
It was agreed that a separate meeting should be held to discuss the issue of fundraising and to brainstorm any ideas. Caz Liebert and Lou Colonna would be available sources of information, and so should attend the meeting, but it was also acknowledged that both were unable to be involved in any additional work beyond such a meeting.
The date and venue for this meeting will be Tuesday 29th January at West Side Church at 7.30pm and EW will inform all immediately inform all interested and potentially interested parties by letter of this event. The main business will be to discuss the Summer Fair and other Fundraising ideas for 2008.
Caz Liebert agreed to book the venue.
7. Summer Fair Committee
This has been covered in 6. Above and will be discussed in depth at the meeting on 29th January.
8. Storage of PTA gas bottles
EW has resolved this issue.
9. Any Other Business
None
