Pupil Parliament

The Pupil Parliament is organised by our fantastic Learning Mentor, Megan and involves all of our KS2 classes. It provides a wonderful opportunity for children to meet and discuss real issues affecting Old Palace, such as how to make our school a cleaner, environmentally friendly and healthy school.

During the summer term, pupils campaign for election to the Parliament. These campaigns have to be properly organised with a promotion strategy involving poster campaigns and public speaking, in order to persuade the electorate.

The KS2 pupils are then invited to take part in a secret ballot to elect one boy and one girl. During the following academic year, the chosen candidates attend meetings and workshops with the representatives from each class. They are also asked to make speeches upon specified issues to members of the staff and at school assemblies.

Pupil Parliament provides all the children with an insight into the process of democratic elections. It also encourages self-confidence and provokes deeper thought about real issues that could affect their education and life at Old Palace.
