Homelessness

Have you ever seen someone sleeping in a shop doorway, or in a train station, or begging for money in the street? These people are homeless. But homelessness does not simply mean sleeping rough or living in the streets.

Perhaps you have heard of people squatting places that are not theirs, or seen in the news people called Refugees seeking asylum.

Refuge means “a place of safety”. Asylum means “A place offering protection and safety; a shelter.”

All these people for different reasons do not have a home to live in or have left their home because they do not feel safe.

Sometimes people move to find work, as there is little where they live. Often they move to the cities to look for work, but find it very hard, they cannot find, or cannot afford to rent somewhere to live.

Sometimes people’s homes are destroyed by a natural disaster. Sometimes Governments want to move people off their land for different reasons.

The web links and information sheets will help to explain how different people are homeless.

Your misson is to:

* find out about homelessness
