e. ben.cole@towerhamlets.gov.uk THAMESrocks We are helping young people in Tower Hamlets celebrate the fantastic music being made by them. Young people are leading all areas of developing, planning, and managing THAMESrocks. From researching venues, sorting out the guest list, working out the running order to booking the bands and finding the money to make it all happen. We’re helping – but they are making it happen. Young people planning and developing the event will be given the option of taking the Arts Award (www.artsaward.org.uk) at silver level. This is a Level 2 qualification which is the equivalent level to a GCSE. The first THAMESrocks event happened on March 1st 2007. For more details click here. e. ben.cole@towerhamlets.gov.uk Future Music event 25-27th October 2006 As part of our Youth Consultation we partnered with Tower Hamlets Summer University (www.summeruni.org) and Rich Mix (www.richmix.org.uk) to put on Future Music an event to inspire the next generation of Tower Hamlets musicians. The three-day music taster event took place at Rich Mix on Bethnal Green road during half-term from the 25th to the 27th October 2006. Activities ran from 10.00-3.00pm every day, with a final performance on the 27th. The event gave young people (11-14yrs) the chance to try out different music making activities and help THAMES, Tower Hamlets Summer University and Rich Mix plan the services they will provide in the future. During the event young people were given the chance to give their opinions on a wide variety of activities from drumming and vocal work, to playing in a band and making beats. On the final day those taking part came together to blend what they have been trying out into a performance to parents, friends and special invited guests. A video of Future Music will be available on this website shortly. For details of further events contact: Ben Cole, Manager: Creative and Cultural Futures for THAMES
