Thanks to funding from The Jack Petchey Foundation the first THAMESrocks gig took place on March 1st 2007 at Rich Mix on Bethnal Green Road. Six bands played the gig to an audience of over 300 people which included Neil Ridley the A+R Manager for Warner Brothers Records.
THAMESrocks is the work of young people from across the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. THAMESrocks is the first result from THAMES consultation with young people which found that opportunities to take part in events where few and far between.
The gig was organised by students from, Central Foundation, Bow, and Morpeth with the bands being made up of students form Morpeth, Raines, Oaklands, Bishop Challenor, Thomas Tallis, and Tower Hamlets College.

Musical Futures and THAMES makes a Rich Mix

Musical Futures CPD workshops came to London in June to spectacular effect.
38 Secondary School Teachers, Music Service Leaders and Peripatetic Teachers from London and the South East took part in a day designed to give them a practical taste of how Musical Futures works.
The day was hosted by Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES) at the Rich Mix Centre in Bethnal Green www.richmix.org.uk which turned over two floors to accommodate the sessions.
Those attending took part in workshops from all 3 Pathfinders, Nottingham, Leeds and Hertfordshire. Each pathfinder ran a practical session offering the chance to experience their models in action. Those attending got the chance to create a soundtrack to a film, learn a new instrument in a group, form a band and perform a song.
