These resources have been produced by a Southwark primary science AST: Jeannine Shardlow.
This is how she uses the glossaries in her teaching:
"I issue each child with a copy of the vocabularies / glossaries at the start of each unit and it forms the front page of their science file. It is available to them during every lesson, and I expect the children to refer to it to find the word they want to use, to check the meaning of the words they choose to use and to check the spelling of the key words. The pictures have been selected to provide as clear a visual clue as I could find. Some are relevant to the science environment provided at our school, but could be just as useful to any other school."
"I have found that if the teacher expects them to be used and encourages their use during lessons, the children soon become adept at referring to them and after about six months the standard of scientific language use and accurate spelling of key words rises. They encourage the children to use the vocabulary with far more confidence in their verbal responses and written work."
