RE Resources

Opening the Window
This paper explores the window of opportunity that exists for groups and individuals from religious organisations, groups or religious centres, to assist schools with either their RE or collective worship programmes.

Southwark Guidance on Collective Worship
An advisory document on schools' arrangements for collective worship.

Southwark Determinations Procedure
This document sets out the procedure by which a school can apply to SACRE for a 'determination' for a variation on the law on Collective Worship for that school.

Raising Standards at GCSE in Religious Education
An advisory document, full of self-review materials and useful resources, for secondary schools.

Complying with legal requirements for Religious Education
A Self Review Audit Tool supporting primary and secondary schools in fullfilling their legal obligations.

Religious Education Visits
A support document for schools planning visits within the curriculum to places of worship of different faiths.

CD ROM resources
This document reviews some of the interactive CD ROM resources available for RE, including the Espresso Faiths materials which are freely available to all London schools.

Espresso Faiths
Click here to run the Espresso Faiths CDs online.
To do this you need to be at a computer which is physically connected to LGfL, e.g. at school rather than at home.
You will also find that you can only run two or three copies of full screen video at once. To run full video at more machines simultaneously it is better to run the CDs from copies installed on your network or on a cache box on the network.
Southwark schools who do not have their copy of the four Espresso Faiths CD ROMs, containing the material for six faiths, to enable them to install on their network or copy and use on teacher laptops, may contact Jamie McLaren at jamie.mclaren@southwark.gov.uk

Southwark Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education
- April 2005

The new Agreed Syllabus contains statutory content for Religious Education in Southwark primary and secondary schools. It also offers extensive teaching units for both age groups in all six major faiths.

There is a useful and substantial Introduction, and also separate materials for the Foundation Stage and for Assessment.

Click here for further details of the Southwark Agreed Syllabus or to download the appropriate documents.

NEW - May 2006. Launch of Revision to the Agreed Syllabus.
Click here to launch (or right click and Save Target As to download) the PowerPoint presentation which explains the agreed revisions to the delivery of the Parts and Units of the Southwark Agreed Syllabus. The presentation also makes very useful suggestions as to which of the Units of Work could be delivered in each year.
