The School Curriculum All pupils follow the full National Curriculum throughout Key Stages 3 and 4. At Orleans Park we interpret the curriculum to mean "everything that we intend for our pupils." This includes all the subject teaching of the school, but goes much further than that. The wider curriculum, including all our extra-curricular activities, is what we intend all pupils to receive. Key Stage 3 - Years 7, 8 and 9 In Key Stage 3, all pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, Art, Design and Technology, Drama, French, Geography, Information Technology, History, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies and Social Education. The majority of pupils are also offered the opportunity to study German. Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11 In Years 10 and 11, all pupils study English, Mathematics and Science. The majority of pupils alsostudy Design and Technology and either French or German to GCSE level. Most pupils take separate GCSE examinations in English and English Literature. The majority of pupils will study Statistics, in addition to Mathematics, and will sit GCSE exams in both subjects. The Science course followed by pupils is a two-year Broad and Balanced course, which covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It leads to a dual award of two GCSE grades at the end of year 11. At Key Stage 4 pupils can also choose further optional courses to study to GCSE Level. The current choice includes Art, Drama, French, Geography, German, History, Information Technology, Media Studies, Music and Physical Education. All pupils at Key Stage 4 also follow non-examination courses in Physical Education and Social Education. Religious Studies is studied as a short GCSE course in Years 9 and 10. It is part of the Social Education course in Year 11. The school is committed to continuing to offer a range of choice at Key Stage 4. We offer alternative courses, for example: Travel and Tourism that provide the pupils for whom these courses are appropriate a different form of certification at the end of Key Stage 4.
