The school had its beginning in 1883 when it was part of a school for girls and infants. In January 1969 staff and children transferred from Hampton Station Infant School to the present building in Ripley Road. The school was officially opened in May 1969 and renamed Hampton Infant School. The school accepts children aged from 4+ years to 7 years and has approximately 270 children on roll.

The Nursery opened in 1995 in a new self contained building adjacent to the school and is used by 26 children for each half day session. As part of the whole school, children in the Nursery regularly come into the school for joint activities and to share resources. As a result, children are familiar with the school and teachers when they join the Reception class.

Library

The school is semi open plan and is organised in three separate year groups - Reception, Year One and Year Two. Each group is based in one of three classroom areas. Each area known as a "wing" is self sufficient, containing three open plan classrooms, a quiet room and an internal toilet block. The children in each wing are organised into three parallel classes. Each wing has the equipment, books and materials specifically required for that year group. There is a well stocked library from which both fiction and non fiction books can be borrowed. As the library is computerised children are able to issue and return books themselves.

There are well equipped tarmac and grass play areas. Reception Year children have their own playground outside the Reception classes while children in years One and Two share a larger playground at the back of the school. There are 3 'Gazova's' providing areas of shade in the summer. In good weather children can have their packed lunches outside at the picnic tables. The environmental garden and pond area offer opportunities for environmental work in the school grounds. There are outdoor learning areas for Reception, Year One, and Year Two.
