Oaks Park High School has taken part in the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme since the school first opened. Every month a student receives a certificate and £300 to spend on the school area of their choice. Students can be nominated by other students, teaching or non-teaching staff, governors or parents. All the nominations are examined by a panel consisting of staff and students. A member of staff is also nominated for the leader award once a year.
Examples of winning student nominations include:
- Services to the student buddy scheme;
- Excellent effort during work experience;
- Extra-curricular work and national competitions in ice skating;
- Coaching and supporting the girls’ rugby team;
- Services to school cricket and scoring Oaks Park’s first century.
Previous leader (staff) awards include:
- Jane Sedin, the Headteacher's PA, was the first person to be awarded the Jack Petchey Leader award. She has played a tremendous role in establishing Oaks Park as a successful school. She was one of the first members of staff to be appointed in 2000. Her role has been extended far beyond her original job description and she has participated in numerous extra curricular activities .
- Ken Hughes, Technician in the Design and Technology team, for managing the Year 8 football team and fundraising for the school minibus.
- Denise Freeman, Team Leader for Geography, for raising over £1000 towards the rebuild of a new school in South Africa and maintaining links with that school. She has also worked hard to develop Geography within Oaks Park High School.
- Debbie Ford, Clerical Officer in charge of data and cover, who has played a tremendous role in establishing Oaks Park as a successful school. Respected by staff and students alike, she has very efficiently carried out her role far beyond her original job description and participated in numerous extra curricular activities.
