ORGANISATION
Student Support
All students who enter Oaks Park will be placed in a mixed ability
tutor group. The tutor groups will be based on information, which
we receive from primary schools. The immediate point of contact
for your child will be the form tutor.
The tutor group will meet daily for registration both in the morning
and the afternoon. Structured tutor periods will take place four
times per week and there will be an
assembly once per week.
The work of the form tutor will be co-ordinated by the Head of Year.
If there are any matters, which concern you, please contact your
childs form tutor in the first instance.
Additional
Support for Students
At Oaks Park High School we want all students to reach their full
potential. The
Curriculum Access Department will work closely with all students
who have a special educational need or who are bi-lingual learners.
A range of strategies will be used, in order to provide the necessary
support for the student to access the secondary curriculum or remove
barriers to learning. Parents/carers and students will be
informed at all stages of the process.
Before starting at Oaks Park the Head of Year 7 and Manager for
Curriculum Access will work closely with the Primary Schools to
ensure that there is a smooth transition to Secondary School for
all our students. In the first week of the Autumn Term, the Department
and staff will identify potential support needs with regard to SEN
and the Code of Practice. With targeted support, working with staff
and parents/carers,
linking with outside agencies, differentiating the curriculum, monitoring
assessment and using appropriate resources our aim is to value every
student as part of the school community.
Gifted and
Talented Students
At Oaks Park High School we would expect to identify between 5-10%
(12-24) of students as gifted or talented in each year group. Gifted
students are those who have considerable intellectual ability across
a range of subjects including English, Maths and Science. Talented
students have a talent in a particular area such as
Music or Drama.
Students who have been identified as being gifted and talented are
entered onto the school register. A copy of the register is made
available to all staff. The register is reviewed regularly and the
progress of students on it tracked by individual teachers, learning
teams, academic mentor and the gifted and talented co-ordinator
to ensure that they are working to reach their full potential.
Gifted and Talented students are also given the opportunity to join
the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth that is run by
Warwick University.
