Go Back Tuesday 28th November - Ken I spent the morning in the upper school library working with groups of seconday teachers from different departments. For the most part, we were going over ideas and techniques suggested on Monday afternoon’s session.
The teachers had loads of ideas as to how the notebook software could be used to support lessons. The Humanities teachers were particularly interested in creating interactive quizzes with hyperlinks to pages and sounds. We spent a fair chunk of the session looking for a suitable “Wa, Waaaarr” sound to play when a question was answered wrong! The afternoon was spent with a group of KS1 teaching assistants, going over some of the basic techniques they could use with the Interactive Whiteboard. Just like TAs we have worked with in the UK, they were full of ideas and enthusiasm for using the boards with small groups of children during the lesson. This evening we went to see the Houston Rockets basketball match played at the Toyota Centre – the same venue where we saw the ice hockey on Sunday. It was even more of a spectacle than the Hockey! Here, the interval entertainment consisted of choirs, cheerleaders in various states of undress, short movies played on the screen, karate displays, break dancing, competitions and prizes. A particular highlight for me was the last cheerleaders' routine where they all took turns to run up to a small trampoline placed near the hoop, jump high in the air and slam dunk the basket ball! I was so mesmerized by this that I forgot to take a photo! Oh yes, the game was good too!
