Go Back

Sunday November 26th 2006 Ken

My first night in Houston didn’t go too well as my sleep was interrupted by a strategically placed extractor fan out side my room that decided to switch on at 2AM. After an hour of thinking “It’ll switch off soon.” I decided to switch rooms but couldn’t manage to get back to sleep. The upside is that instead of a noisey extractor fan for a view, I now have the pool!

Despite no sleep, I started the day pretty positively as we were going to have a look around the school and get set up for the week…..yes, we are actually working out here!

The most striking thing about the school is how similar it is to schools in the UK. With the exception of some notable resources like a huge gym, drama hall and science lab, the school could easily be transported to Newham and not look out of place. The classrooms are very similar to UK ones, right down to furniture and displays. Walking into the computer suite also felt very familiar.

We spent ages going through the material for the training session and I am confident that we will have a great time. It really is just like other training sessions we have run, only this time we have flown 4000 miles across the Atlantic instead of 2 miles up Green Street!

It’s not all work though as we managed to catch a bite to eat at the Galleria and then go and watch an Ice Hockey match in the evening! The interval entertainment was almost as enjoyable as the match itself and consisted of lots of singing and dancing from members of the audience, an “It’s a knockout” style competition and a break dancing dog!!
