The Curriculum

The curriculum in school describes which subjects the children study, how they study them, how the subjects relate to each other and how the subjects are planned and assessed.

The curriculum seeks to develop in all pupils:

  • the ability to discover facts accurately and use them critically

  • the ability to identify and solve problems independently, as individuals and in co-operation with others.

  • the ability to work well with others, showing social skills of co-operation, leadership, mutual respect, understanding and support.

  • the motivation and ability to build on strengths and learn from mistakes

  • The ability to engage in and take responsibility for their own learning thus laying the foundation for a life-long process.

Each subject within the National Curriculum has Attainment Targets consisting of 10 levels of achievement. At the end of Key Stage One and Key Stage Two, children are assessed by means of Statutory Assessment Tasks (SATS) and levels of attainment in English, Maths and Science are reported to parents. The average expected levels for the primary school are set out below.

Special Needs

We aim to identify children with Special Educational Needs as early as possible so that the necessary support can be given. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) maintains an overview in this area.
