What are the on-line diaries?

The on-line Pupil Learning diaries are a series of approximately 10 web pages called a ‘Learning Module’ and are accessible through the LGfL portal. The on-line Pupil Learning Diaries have been designed to help pupils to engage with the KS3 Strategy ICT Strand units of work. The diaries support Assessment for Learning. Each on-line diary contains pages as below:

  • home – outlining the purpose of the diary and guidance for pupils and teachers on using the diary
  • student - unit objectives written in ‘pupil speak’ as ‘I can do’ statements and space for pupils to set their targets and record their progress
  • menu – list of lessons and guidance for pupils on reading and responding to questions. The menu links to between 4 – 7 pages. Each page contains: One sentence to outline what pupils will learn in the lesson; useful vocabulary; unit objectives turned into ‘pupil speak’ questions and space for pupils to respond; space for feedback to pupils from teachers/teaching assistants/peers; link to the ‘help’ page. The last lesson in each module invites pupils to respond to evaluative questions which encourage them to reflect on the way that they learn.
  • help – pupils use this space to let the teacher know how they feel about each lesson and whether they are ‘stuck’. There is also space for feedback from the teacher/teaching assistant or peer.
  • resources – downloadable worksheets which pupils can read before or during the lesson or complete for homework.
  • glossary – contains words pupils may need for the unit, space for them to record their definitions and web links to on-line dictionaries.
