Rationale for using the Diaries The diaries can be used to support both teaching and learning. How can they help pupils learning? Use of the diaries:
- encourages pupils to take more responsibility for their learning and set their own targets;
- makes explicit to pupils what they are going to learn and prompts them to record what they know already;
- supports pupils to reflect on the individual session content and demonstrate what they have learned;
- provides a framework for feedback from the teacher;
- helps pupils to reflect on how effectively they have been as learners throughout the unit.
How can they help with teaching? Use of the diaries:
- assists with planning the unit of work;
- helps teachers to teach to the Primary SoW, KS3 framework objectives and KS4 coursework criteria;
- helps teachers to maintain focus and pace throughout the unit;
- supports monitoring of pupils' progress and informs future planning;
- provides a simple format for teachers to mark pupils' work and provide feedback;
- informs teachers' annual summative assessment.
