Welcome to our School!

Hitherfield is a County Primary school for children between the ages of 3-11 years. The school has a Nursery unit for 70 children between the ages of 3-4 years. We currently have two classes of 30 children in each year group.
The pupils are largely drawn from the surrounding residential area, which is a mixture of private and public housing including a number of local authority estates.
English is not the home language for a high proportion of the children. Over 50% of the children are eligible for free school meals. Approximately 30% of the children are on the Special Needs register at any one time. The diverse community that we serve enriches the whole school environment. Children are expected to respect and value each other as individuals.
Hitherfield Primary School provides a safe and caring place for the children with a particularly attractive outside environment. There is an abundance of open space with two playgrounds, a field, meadow and pond area.

We are proud of our school and hope that your child will enjoy learning and be a happy and confident member of our school community. We feel that Parents / Carers and school working together can best achieve this.
Parents / Carers are welcome into our school to help in the classrooms or with fund raising. We will always make time to talk to you about your child’s progress or to discuss any issues concerning school life, but please make appointments to ensure enough time is made available.
We hold regular open days, Parents / Carers’ evenings, workshops and exhibitions to help you to understand the education that we are offering to your child and to keep you informed of his/her progress.
Our main aim is to provide an atmosphere in which your child will be able to develop into an independent learner and feel excited by his/her achievements.

We look forward to a happy and productive relationship.
Christopher Ashley-Jones – Headteacher

Simon Hooberman – Chair of Governors
