Partnership with Parents / Homework

It is one of the school's main aims to work closely in partnership with parents. Children flourish when there is continuity and consistency between home and school.

From the start we welcome parents to work alongside us in the classrooms both on a regular or more flexible basis. Parents are invited to help out generally in the classrooms or to talk about their specific interests or demonstrate particular skills. Parents accompany classes on trips out of school and assist us with the running of clubs and sporting events. One of the strengths of our school is the superb support we receive from our parents in a variety of ways.

Homework is encouraged throughout the school. It begins in Nursery when books are taken home. Reading as homework remains of paramount importance right through the school. As the children get older additional activities and tasks are sent home. Homework is sent regularly depending on the age of your child.and the amount of homework increases as the child progresses through the school. The emphasis is on supporting your child with their homework to foster positive attitudes to learning and to have fun!

Each term teachers send home a flow chart of work planned and suggested activities and visits that could be done at home to support work in school. Parents are invited each term to their child's class assembly as well as to concerts and other special assemblies.

Regular newsletters from the Head teacher keep parents informed of school events. In addition, the Governors send out a termly newsletter. Early Years and Key Stage One classrooms each have a parents' notice board. The main school and Governors' notice boards are located on the ground floor.

Staff are available at the start and at the end of every day and formal Parents' Evenings are held each term. Annual written reports are sent to parents at the end of each academic year. Curriculum evenings for parents are held from time to time.

The school has an active Parent/Teacher fund-raising and social group known as Friends of Spring Grove School (FOSGS) of which all parents automatically become members. A range of social events is organised throughout the year, planned by a Committee and very well attended by parents, pupils and members of our local community.

A group of parents form a Committee for our Extended Day Care Scheme. This assists parents with child care between the hours of 8am and 8.55am and 3.20pm and 5.45pm. The scheme is located in our mobile classroom and caters for children from Reception to Year 6.

There are four elected parent representatives on our Governing Body who are around and about the school at the start and end of the day if parents wish to talk to them.
