Attendance Attendance is very good at Spring Grove School. Our parents are fully supportive of the high standards we are striving to achieve and regular attendance is valued. Parents are required to notify the school in person, by telephone, e-mail or letter, when a child has been away for any reason. If no reason is supplied for an absence the school is required by law to record the absence as unauthorised. Children are only allowed to miss school because of sickness, religious observance, a wedding or bereavements in the family or other exceptional circumstances. Behaviour High standards of behaviour are expected from every child and member of the school community. We encourage and reward good behaviour as this makes teaching and learning possible. Children are rewarded for good behaviour and work habits by means of verbal praise from their teachers, support staff and Head teacher. Reward stickers are used by all members of staff throughout the school in addition to verbal praise. School stationery is awarded when collections of stickers are complete. Each week an Appreciation Assembly is held when children are publicly rewarded with a Certificate for all manner of appropriate behaviour. Children and staff have agreed Codes of Conduct for behaviour in and around school. In the classroom children and staff regularly review a simple Code of Conduct for their own classroom. The older junior children are encouraged to join in a Meaningful Work Programme at lunchtimes to help with the smooth running of the school and add to the Social and Emotional Well-being of the younger children. If difficult situations arise, staff will draw children's attention to the code, talk it through and remind children of what it means. All staff follow the school's Behaviour Policy so that we have a consistent approach. If the Code of Conduct is broken children will be reprimanded by their teacher or lunch time supervisor. They will always be expected to apologise for poor behaviour. As a consequence of unacceptable behaviour, pupils may receive one of a variety of sanctions which include missing one or more playtimes, staying in to complete work, or writing a letter of apology. If the matter is considered to be more serious, it may be referred to the Deputy or Head Teacher. Parents will always be informed of any problems in this area and it is our aim to work closely with home. The school will not tolerate bullying, racism or sexism and any incidents are fully investigated. |
