Children in Nursery and Reception classes will be developing their literacy and numeracy skills through a variety of activities based largely around structured play situations as well as gaining an understanding of the world around them. Classroom activities will encourage pupils to extend their creative, physical and social skills through first hand experience.

Young children will be actively involved in their learning and it is often through play that children are able to explore and make sense of their world. As children progress through the Reception year, planned activities become more structured to ensure a smooth transition into the expectations of Key Stage One.
