Spring Grove is fortunate to have a well qualified, enthusiastic staff who use a range of teaching styles to encourage all children, at every stage of their learning, to develop their abilities and talents so that they achieve their full potential in all aspects of the curriculum. Spring Grove provides a broad and balanced curriculum including the National Curriculum, in a supportive environment. Within our teaching and learning we value both the content and the process because children today need to be problem solvers and decision makers in an exciting, technological World. They need to feel self confident and be able to act independently and also to co-operate with each other and to respect differences. Teaching and learning is a co-operative process involving children, parents, teachers and all the members of the school community. In addition to the National Curriculum, we aim to offer a range of cultural experiences and opportunities including visits to art galleries, theatres, concerts and workshop facilities that provide collaborative opportunities for participation in the arts. Pupils from Spring Grove School regularly take part in activities that celebrate the arts. Spring Grove School regularly holds a range of performances, concerts and class assemblies. All children are given the opportunity to participate. Writers, authors, artists and musicians regularly visit the school. We also encourage children’s interest and participation in a range of sporting activities. In addition to PE lessons we allocate time to individual and team sports. Teams of our children play football, netball, rugby, cricket and rounders against other schools. We round off the sporting year with separate infant and junior sports days and a whole school Fun Sports Morning with teams that include children ranging from Reception to Year 6 (co-operation is the key to success) followed by a picnic on the school field. The school actively participates in the local School Sports Co-ordinator Programme. We welcome qualified coaches from Brentford's Football in the Community Scheme, The London Broncos, Middlesex County Cricket Club and local Secondary Schools to extend children's experiences and skills. Children also participate in the ASA Swimming Awards and Five Star Athletics Association Scheme and the school encourages links with local tennis and hockey clubs. We actively encourage our children to investigate and participate in the wide range of exciting opportunities available to them in the local area by providing them with information and as much first hand experience as possible. Our curriculum is further enhanced by a school journey for the older children in the Juniors. This five day experience enhances children's intellectual, personal and social development. A range of extra-curricular clubs and activities are organised by staff and outside providers, which take place either at lunch time or after school. The school has an active School Council with representatives from Years 2 to 6 who form a link between the children, the management of the school and the Community. |
