Illness & Absence
What do I do if my child is absent?
It is a legal requirement for any absence to be explained to the school. This should be done by letter to a class teacher or a phone call to the school office.
If you intend to take your child out of school for a family holiday you must request this in writing. You can then arrange an appointment with the head teacher to discuss your reasons for absence. Family holidays during school time will not be authorised absences.
What if my child is ill?
If your child is clearly very unwell in the morning, please do not bring him/her to school. Instead, keep him/her at home.
If your child has vomited or had diarrhoea, they should ordinarily be kept at home for 24 hours after the last bout of illness.
Please ring the school office between 8.30 - 8.50 am to explain that your child is ill and for how long you expect him/her to be off school for.
What if my child is on a course of medicine?
Normally we are unable to administer medicines. Parents and carers however, are welcome to call at the school office to administer medicines to their children when necessary.
If you child has a long-term medical condition which requires treatment during the school day, please contact us to arrange a meeting with the headteacher. A medical plan of care for your child will then be agreed.
Asthma
Inhalers must be clearly labelled and parents are required to inform the school office, of their permission for children to use inhalers and any details relating to the child's asthma.
If there are any other circumstances that may affect you and your child, please make an appointment to discuss individual needs with the head teacher.
PLEASE ensure that your child never brings medicines to school (e.g. cough sweets, vitamins etc)
