How Can I Help?

How Can I Help My Child?

Whatever stage your child is at, be interested in all that happens at school - without applying undue pressure.

Read to your child and read with your child. Play games according to the child's interests and age, e.g. snap, dominoes, monopoly etc.

Homework in years one and two will include reading, a writing task and some mathematics work. Please help your child if concepts are sent home for them to learn. (The homework policy is available via our Policy and Procedures page).

Above all, try to help your child to see learning as both useful and enjoyable. A tense, nervous child will not easily learn. If your child is experiencing difficulty with anything, a calm supportive approach is always best. Please let your child's class teacher know if your child is having problems with any of the homework.

How Can I Help the School?

Many parents work in the classrooms, helping out and doing a variety of jobs. Parent helpers are appointed, so please let the community teacher know if you are interested.

Some ways you can help are:

Listening to children read

Art and craft activities

Accompanying class trips

Changing reading books

Helping with after school clubs

Gardening

Another way to help is to become a class representative. These are appointed annually.

How does the school involve the community?

Norwood Green Infant School is an 'Extended School' and works in conjunction with the Nursery on the Green (next door to the school) to extend the provision, both during and outside the school day, for children, families and the wider community.

As part of the joint programme we work closely with other agencies such as Health, Social Services, Adult Education and Voluntary Organisations to provide a wide range of services for families. These include:

Family Learning Courses - Yoga, Cookery

  • Adult Education Classes e.g. English Classes
  • Parent and Baby Drop-in Sessions

  • Childminders Network Meetings
  • Information on aspects of Health e.g. Weaning and Healthy Eating
  • 'Extended Childcare provision including Holiday Clubs, Breakfast and after school clubs and Wraparound care.

We are a school that is committed to working closely with the community to help children and young people to achieve their potential.
