Religious Education
Norwood Green Infant and Nursery School is a multicultural and multi-faith school. We are proud that the children in our school are members of different faiths. Religious Education (RE) is taught in both the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and in Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2). It is a legal requirement to teach RE to all pupils.
RE is as important part of children’s learning because it allows them an opportunity to explore the different ways in which others lead their lives.
We follow the LCP Syllabus which is based on the non-statutory framework. We look at many aspects of different religions through a topic. These include: Myself, Celebrations, Stories, Special People, belonging and Beliefs.
As part of the children’s learning, we have visited several places of worship in the local area to find out how our friends and peers celebrate their own religions. People working in places of worship are also invited to come into the school and speak to the children about their religion and faith, as are parents.
We celebrate a wide range of religious festivals throughout the school year. These are celebrated and show cased at a special assembly or through a special event e.g. ‘Diwali Disco’. RE displays are changed every month to reflect the festivals that the children and staff celebrate.
