ICT

ICT is an integral and growing part of modern life. It involves the storage, processing and retrieval of information by electronic means. By teaching ICT we are equipping our children to deal with the changing world where activities are increasingly transformed by technology. Developing ICT skills helps children to become creative, independent and confident learners. ICT provides opportunities to increase motivation, self-esteem and to work collaboratively. ICT should be integrated and used as a tool for assisting and learning in all other areas of the curriculum. Within our school, ICT is used widely, especially through the use of the interactive whiteboard. We incorporate and use a wide range of software and applications. The interactive whiteboard provides stimulation and has increased imagination in the learning environment.

We have two sets of laptops and each class is timetabled to use the laptops for whole class ICT teaching. There are opportunities to sign up for extra sessions linked to cross curricular ICT teaching and leaning throughout the school week. All classes have access to the Internet and within ICT development each child will have their own personalised learning platform by 2008, which can be accessed both at school and at home. We have increased our school based ICT resources to include digital cameras, digi blue cameras, scanners, microscopes, roamers, beebots, a new and improved hall system with dvd, video, computer and audio equipment. Key stage 1 plan their ICT in accordance with their half termly topics and the ‘ICT Connect’ Scheme of work. The foundation stage also plan according to topics and specific activities taking place. Homework and related school activities can now be accessed via our school website which the children regularly contribute too.
