Art
Art and design is a fundamental foundation subject within the National Curriculum. It offers children opportunities to explore and experience their world creatively. Through stimulation and active use of the imagination children can express their feelings, ideas and emotions about their personal and cultural lives. Art values unique and personal responses to stimuli, resulting in enjoyment, self-satisfaction and significant self-expression.
Art is a discrete subject with its own visual language, which includes elements of line, colour, tone, pattern, texture, shape, form and space. The main areas that the children have the opportunity to develop specific skills are drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture (3D work) and textile work.
The attainment target is designed to begin to develop children’s awareness and appreciation of art from a variety of cultures, past and present. Children should be encouraged to discuss their own and others work and be supported to view themselves as artists.
Art has cross-curricular links with most other subject areas. At Norwood Green we deliver art through our half termly topics. We have also give the gifted and talented children in art the opportunities to take part in art extension activities.
