SCIENCE COLLEGE

Gunnersbury School was awarded the status of Science College by the governments Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in June 2003. The applications success depended on how the government judged Gunnersbury’s ability to live up to the four key areas of responsibility that a specialist school has to take on board.

Ø Responsibility to Pupils

Ø Responsibility to other schools

Ø Responsibility to local business

Ø Responsibility to community

Gunnersbury staff and pupils have seen a dramatic change in the science department as a result of the schools new Science College Status. Using the extra funding granted to Gunnersbury as a specialist school three of the laboratories underwent a complete refurbishment. The refitted labs are among the best in the country with a raft of new technology and equipment that allows teachers and pupils to get the most out of practical work and help in their analysis of experiments.
