Additional courses
Student timetables are very full and the non-examinable curriculum forms an invaluable addition for all students. As well as timetabled lessons for each subject, all students follow the following courses :
à General RE – one lesson per week
à Community Volunteering – two lessons per week. In this time, you are encouraged to gain experience and knowledge of a wider range of cultural and artistic pursuits. These courses aim to continue your individual development. These are many opportunities for developing leadership skills and taking on new responsibilities. This year our Year 12 students have been involved in the following :
o ASDAN Level 3 Certificate in Personal Effectiveness (CoPE)
o Fulcrum Challenge
o Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Awards
o Working with Science colleagues with Partner primary schools
o Helping younger children in local nursery and primary schools
o Supporting outreach work at local Catholic churches
o Landscaping a nature reserve at Log Cabin
o Working with volunteers at Blondin and Boston Manor Parks
o Organising sessions with Youth Cadets
o Acting as classroom assistants in Gunnersbury
o Producing pieces of religious art for display around the school
o Performing in and out of school in the Gunnersbury Gospel choir
o Participating in the British Airways Language Flag Award
o Helping younger students by acting as mentors and counsellors
à PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) and Citizenship – one lesson per week with your Form Tutor
