The support offered by parents is highly valued in Feltham Hill Junior School. We actively encourage parents to work with us in the education of their children by helping in the library, during class activities, at our regular Book Fairs and so on. If you would like help in school please let us know. Friends of Feltham Hill Junior School All parents are automatically members of our Friends of Feltham Hill Junior School. The group meets together regularly to plan both social and fund-raising events. All are welcome to come to the meetings. The success of the group obviously greatly depends on the number of parents and members of the community who volunteer to help through attending meetings or assisting at events. We have been very grateful for the many resources provided for our school and our children by the Friends. In recent years these have included interactive boards for classrooms, picnic benches, a staging system for performances and books for our class libraries. Keeping You Informed So that parents can share in their child's work, each year group sends out newsletters detailing the curriculum each term We send regular newsletters to keep you up to date with our successes and developments. As much as possible, we try to always send parents' letters home on Fridays so that parents know when to expect them. Copies of letters can be found in the leaflet rack in the school entrance hall. There are parent notice boards around the school where you will find updates on information. We invite parents to regular consultation meetings throughout the year. These provide opportunities to discuss your child's achievements and to determine future suitable targets. At the end of the Summer term you will receive your child's annual report which summarises her or his achievements in all curriculum areas. Helping Your Child At Home The undivided attention parents can offer is invaluable to their child's development. It really benefits your child if you can read to them, listen to them read, and help them learn their tables. Board games and puzzles will help your child with turn taking, counting and with learning to win and to lose. Building and making activities will help develop manipulation skills. Learning songs and rhymes by heart gives good practice in memory training that is an important part of all learning. Taking children to the library gives them better access to books and selective viewing of television can be a valuable resource for learning. Showing that you, as parents, believe that school is important will give them an essential basis for learning. Involving yourself in homework tasks is important. You will have every opportunity to discuss your child's targets and what you can do to ensure that your child works successfully towards these. Home-School Agreement The school has a Home-School Agreement which promotes clear expectations for all. The Agreement sets out what the parent and child might expect of the school and what the school expects of the parents and children. When children join our school all parties are invited to sign this as a record of agreement. Community Our school site has a Community Centre and a Community Teacher who helps us organise many classes and events for parents. Already we have had successful Literacy, First Aid, I.C.T., Craft, Keep Fit and Car Maintenance classes. Our Parent & Toddler Group meets several times a week. Grasshoppers, Brekkyhoppers and Teddy Hoppers offer before and after school care and holiday play schemes. The facilities offered for parents and others in the community continue to increase. |
