MATHEMATICS We aim to give children the mathematical skills that they will need during their lives and in other curriculum areas. We expect children to learn their tables. All children have a daily maths lesson that is closely related to the National Numeracy Strategy. Each lesson will focus on different mental maths strategies, develop vocabulary and offer a chance to evaluate their learning. Children are introduced to new concepts through practical activities before they tackle written problems. We use an extensive range of resources, which help solve problems and allow children to make investigations of their own, Calculators and computers are an integral part of our mathematics teaching, as are games, which help children memorise facts and practice skills. |
