Events for 2008

Walk to School Week 2008

Walk to School Week was very special this year! As part of Havering's preparations for the 2012 Olympics schools all over the borough took part in preparing a special banner relating to their school, the walking to school initiative and the Olympic Games.  Children from our Reception Year prepared Olympic cakes for our visitors from Brittons School, and all the school watched Heather Small at the Olympic Ceremony.

Five children and two members of staff from our school joined this walk by marching our flag to Dunningford School as part of the continual celebrations during the week.  Accompanied by Lloyd Scott and members of the Havering Sustainable Travel Team, the children proudly took turns to carry our flag and also to carry the 1948 Olympic torch along the route.  A very memorable occasion for all the school!

In the early part of the Spring term we have lots of exciting events taking place.

Spring 2008

Year R - will have workshops to improve their speaking and listening skills and the use of rhyme in stories based on 'We're going on a bear hunt' story.  This is led by a theatre in education team.

Year 1 - a geography based play 'Where in the world is Barnaby Bear'.  The travels of the bear are part of our early years geography curriculum.

Year 2 - will have a history based play on the life and times of Florence Nightingale, which is part of our history curriculum.

Year 2 - will possibly have a talk from the fire brigade, this is to be confirmed.

The whole school is to benefit from a play on 'being safe on the roads' which is funded by Havering Council.

Class 2's sharing assembly will be on 29th January 2008.

 NOVEMBER 2007

Year Two children enjoyed Christmas Design and Technology mornings.  They learnt skills of creating nets, scoring and cutting card to create pop up images, used a range of tools and materials to make Christmas trees, spirals and messages, ready for the classroom to be decorated.

OCTOBER 2007

 Geoffrye Museum, London

Children from Class 1 and 2 enjoyed a trip back in time to the Victorian age at the Geoffrye Museum in London.  They compared life in a modern and Victorian room, listened to a story about a mouse in an Edwardian house and completed a booklet of differences then and now.  The children received many compliments whilst at the museum about their exemplary behaviour and excellent listening skills. Here are some photos of the visit.

National Gallery

Class 3 visited The National Gallery on 1st October.  The children took part in a gallery tour run by an expert based on paintings with animals and plants.  She encouraged the children to observe closely and to talk about and express opinions on the artist's work.  After lunch the children toured the gallery again looking at the works of Seurat, Van Gogh and Monet, who they have been learning about in the classroom.

They made observational drawings of their favourite paintings and talked about the content, colours and techniques used by the artists.  Everyone had a really enjoyable and interesting day. The children have now created their own 'gallery' in the classroom with work they have produced based on a painting by Henry Roussea called 'Tiger in a Tropical Rainstorm'.
