Centenary

Centenary photograph

..........................

A helicopter was booked to take an aerial photo of the assembled schools on the field arranged to spell out a centenary message.

Preparing to land...

Attention please. This is your captain speaking. We've got stuck on top of a house.

Problem solved.

Take a closer look.

In summer 2002, it was the school's centenary. We had joint celebrations with the Junior school. Ex-staff and pupils visited the school on the Open afternoon. In the morning, we had the Centenary pageant which went through Hornchurch. Whilst the weather was not good, it did not dampen the spirits of those present.

Displays were posted around the school on the theme of the centenary and there were special displays of memorabilia (contributed by ex-pupils etc), photographs of Hornchurch past (courtesy of Hornchurch Library), historical artefacts (from the Ragged School Museum) and old school documents. The children each received a centenary mug.

............................

Some of the staff also dressed up for the occasion, in styles which have come and gone in the last hundred years.

Reliving some past childhood...
