Key Stage 4

Aims

This new course combines ideas for Business Studies and Economics.  You will learn about how different countries run their economies, how businesses are organised and how the lives of ordinary people all over the world are affected.  This course will offer you the opportunity to prepare for life in the working world, especially in the area of Business.

The course is split into six separate units, each one focusing on a specific area of Business activity.  These are as follows:

SUBJECT CONTENT 

 

 

Enterprise

What does it mean?  Why have some people got the "X"factor, and others not?  Why do some businesses succeed, whilst others fail?

Work or what?

How can employers choose the right person for the job?  What is the real reason why we work?  How can employers make us want to work harder?  What is the cost of NOT having a job?

 

Risk or certainty?

Constructing a business plan.  The price is right, or is it?  Where's the money coming from to start?  Promotion tactics.  Why does the economy go up and down?

 

Big or small?

What makes a firm grow?  Can firms become too big?  The E.U - In or out?

Create or Destroy

Can we keep making more and more?  Do firms care about ethics?

Winners or losers?

A look at why there are rich and poor countries.  Why the taxman is necessary.  Why we trade with other nations.

 

 

 

 

How will I be assessed

25% PORTFOLIO - you will be required to submit two investigations, from the range of completed work.

75%  Two externally set and marked written papers.

2 tiers of entry Foundation and High enabling students to attain A* to G

Career Opportunities available

Career opportunities are endless.  Apart from AS/A Level courses and progressing to University, you may be considering owning your own business in the future or becoming an executive in a large or small company.
