Our School

The School Day

Morning session is from 08:55am - 12 noon

Afternoon session is from 1:15pm - 3:15pm

Children should NOT arrive at school before 08:45am when a member of staff will be on playground duty. Please be waiting to collect your child at 3:15pm and make sure that your child knows who is collecting him or her. Please let the school know if there is a change in the person collecting your child from school.

Parents are welcome to bring their children into the playground and to wait for them near the fenced sides. This makes it easier for children to find you and is much safer.

Please do not bring dogs, tricycles or bicycles onto the school grounds.

No smoking in the school or grounds.

If younger children accompany you please keep them with you otherwise they may disturb the quiet story time with which many classes end the school day. There is no parking space available in the school car park. For the children's safety please park away from the school gates and do not park on the zigzag lines outside the school.

School Lunch

Children may go home for lunch, bring a packed lunch or have a school lunch.

School lunches are bought on a cash cafeteria basis enabling children to choose their meal, with adult guidance, and pay according to individual item costs. If you think your child may be eligible for free school meals please ask for an application form from the school office.

Children may bring a packed lunch in a named, suitable container but NO FIZZY DRINKS please. Water is available for all children who stay in school at lunch time and soft drinks can be bought from school meals staff.

Children going home for lunch should be collected at 12 noon and returned to school between 1pm and 1.15pm but not before 1pm.

Milk

Milk to be drunk at morning playtime is available if you wish. The cost is payable termly at the beginning of each term but there is no charge for milk if your child is eligible for free school meals.

Medicine

We are NOT allowed to give medicine to children in school. We do, however, keep individual children’s asthma related equipment in the school office and are able to supervise its use.

Helping Your Child

If you, or the school, have any concerns or delights about your child’s education we will discuss these together to find ways to ensure that all children gain maximum benefit from their Infant School education. Children with physical difficulties will receive specialist help by qualified teachers from the Havering Advisory Services for Children with Learning Difficulties.

We will discuss with parents any concerns we have if children are experiencing difficulties with learning. Children identified with special educational needs will be given additional support as appropriate. This may include working in a small group: help from a teaching assistant or additional teacher, following a group or individual programme of work in some areas.

Children who are more able in a particular subject or subjects will be encouraged to extend their learning by differentiated tasks or additional activities.

School Activities

Children’s class topic work may often include getting first hand experience through a visit outside the school. Work is carefully planned before, during and after the visit to ensure that children get maximum benefit from the trip.

The school always provides sufficient adult supervision on school trips for the children to be in small groups, appropriate to the activities undertaken.

Parents may be asked to give a voluntary contribution towards the cost of transport. No child will be left out of class activities because a parent is unable to make a contribution but if sufficient funding is not available some visits will be unable to take place.

Encouraging Sensible Behaviour

We encourage good manners and self-discipline. When rules are necessary we explain the reason for them. Children are reminded of the rules and their reasons frequently. They are encouraged to behave sensibly for the good of all within the school. Copies of the school and agreed class expectations will be sent home. Children are rewarded for working well and for polite behaviour by praise, stickers or an entry into the Golden Book. We look forward to giving these to your child.

If a child does not behave sensibly he or she will be reminded of the rules individually. Constant behaviour problems will be discussed with the Headteacher who will, if necessary, involve parents. Similarly if your child has any behaviour problems at home the Headteacher will be pleased to discuss them with you.

The Use Of Force To Control Or Restrain Pupils

The ethos of the school is that control of pupils should be based on good personal/professional relationships between staff and pupils. However, circumstances may arise in which staff have to use reasonable force to control or restrain pupils. This would usually be if the child is in danger of hurting him/herself, those around or causing damage. Members of staff will only use reasonable force to control or restrain pupils when all other alternatives have been or cannot be tried. These alternatives are outlined in the school’s policy on discipline and standards of behaviour, and parents can be supplied with a copy of this on request.
