FEEDBACK Teachers on this page and a few Pupils' comments on the next.
These are a few of the teachers’ comments from Havering and Waltham Forest regarding Animals Into Art Shape Poetry Projects
Deputy Head and recently University ITT ICT Tutor (H) Year 6
I am very impressed with what I have seen of your work over the last two afternoons… keep inspiring people (and I suspect that I mean that in a wider remit than just pupils!)
ICT Co-ordinator and Class Teacher (H) Year 6
Was suited to all levels of ability Year 6. Good resources and PowerPoint got childrens’ attention and helped them access the task. Lower ability achieved far more than I expected they seemed to grasp the idea. Work was displayed for parents evening and the idea carried on for lower year group the following year. We all enjoyed it!
Class Teacher (H) Year 6
I think that it worked particularly well with the group it was tried with - top group English; speaking and listening provision for the gifted and talented was superb with the recording of poems; certainly exceeded expectations!
Class Teacher (H) Year 6
This whole project, by thoughtfully yet creatively, utilising a broad palette of delivery has been found to support a wide range of abilities and learning styles. Everybody is a winner and we all loved it. I now use animal shape poetry as an icebreaker for pupils newly arrived in year 5 - it has shown me a lot about pupils strengths and capabilities - and I have used the shape poetry medium to incorporate sport and other topics.
Class Teacher and Year 5 Leader (WF)
It was brilliant! Content well suited and great delivery. Gifted and Talented given freedom with their language and creativity. We would recommend this for sure, especially for Year 5 G and T pupils. Pupils loved it. We shared it with the year group and the community (a poem was printed in the newsletter) and we also made a school display with the others. Please come back and work with other year groups or cohorts within our year group.
Class Teacher Year 6 (WF)
Hafez poems worked well. Great to have Islamic influence. Very pleased with all pupils’ end products - some worked better because of your modeified presentation and we all enjoyed it. The use of and celebration of Hafez was a significant factor in the boosting of pupils engagement and productivity.
Class Teacher Year 6 (WF)
They found it challenging but the end product was very rewarding. Very good delivery making it easily accessible to all pupils. Pupils were able to work at their own level with each one producing something they could be proud of. Work was displayed in the corridor and pupils are now more creative and now tend to want more from their art based activities.
Class Teacher Year 5 (WF)
The concept was very good for this level and it was a wonderful experience for both children and teachers. The lower ability children and the children who had struggled with other poetry concepts became really involved in these sessions. Although an experienced teacher I also learnt a whole lot of new techniques.
Class Teacher Year 5 (WF)
This was a great project enthusiastically, creatively and patiently delivered to a previously challenging class who stayed on task and the results were very encouraging.
