The Project

Brief description of project purpose

• To provide the opportunity for two Olympic cities to share experiences and culture
• Develop communication opportunities, extending audience – writing, speaking and listening – using the LGfL portal and video conferencing
• Enhancing multicultural awareness in schools
• Creation of virtual school links
• Enhancing and developing new teaching styles
• Develop increased opportunities for learning styles for all children
• To share understanding of culture and community in two leading world cities as part of Global Citizenship, developing sustainable school partnerships (including Brent/Havering school partnerships).

Expected Impacts

• Increased pupil motivation leading to high quality outcomes
• Pupils to gain a deeper understanding of their local area and of life in Beijing
• Participating schools will benefit from involvement in this high profile project through public dissemination, parental awareness, teacher enthusiasm, local press coverage.

Teachers Continuing Professional Development

• Teachers will be encouraged to share their practice in the use of technology in the classroom with a particular focus on Interactive Whiteboards for whole class teaching.
• During the study visit teachers will observe the use of technology within Chinese classrooms, interactive whiteboards where they are used and use of software to support learning in Beijing schools.
