Web based activities

Roller Coaster simulation: Set the mass, kinetic energy and size of loop then see what happens to the car and its unfortunate occupants.

Robot Simulator: Design a robot, then let it free in a virtual environment to fend for itself.

Parachute Simulation: You design the parachute, the little computer person has to try it out....ahhh!

Lemonade Stand: You run the stand. Can you make money?

Rabbits and Hunters: Simulation of populations of animals, ideal for introducing this unit.

BotBlox: Create a maze and then set the attributes of Bots to move around it.

Global Warming simulation. Science museum climate change simulation. See what happens if you don’t turn the light off!

Soda play simulated ‘things’. Very clever. Is this beyond year 3?

Pontifex. Bridge building simulation. Highly sophisticated simulation where you build a bridge then see if it will take a train without going for a swim!

Creswell Crags Virtual Tour. A virtual tour of ice age caves.

Discovery Channel Space Walk SimulationBrilliant simulation of a space walk to fix cables on the space shuttle.

Dumptown Put recycling programs in place and see Dumptown shake off its unfortunate name.

Virtual Fish Tank Not sure that this really has a lot of educational mileage but it’s great fun and made me laugh.

BBC virtual garden planner. Very sophisticated simulation that allows you to plan a garden then view it in '3D'

Collin's Coffee: Colin's thirsty and needs a cup of coffee, you have to make it to his exacting requirements.

Software

Factory Deluxe Wonderful simulation program. Children have to manufacture products to given specifications by choosing and arranging up to 10 different machines. The game requires them to experiment and use trial and error in order to succeed. It is suitable for year 3 at the lower levels though set on the top level I found it challenging. Click here to access ordering details.

The Model Shop Contains eight different models and is ideal for use in teaching Year 3 simulations. Activities include: mixing paints to make particular colours, hitting a target, designing a dream classroom, finding ideal growing conditions, calculating calories in sandwich making, calculating the right income for shops, keep the traffic queues low at crosroads and gnome football. Click here to access ordering details.

Spex + Can you design a moonbase given a budget of £10000? Using ths simulation program you can design bedrooms, classrooms, an Egyptian temple and a park.

Zoo Tycoon program. You run a zoo and have to keep all sorts of animals happy. You can download a demo but beware, its a whopping 27Mb.
