The team work across a number of schools on a rolling programme of support. Their role is to:

Raise the achievement of Traveller Gypsy and Roma pupils through work with pupils parents, schools and services

Promote the accessibility of education for Traveller Gypsy and Roma families

Inform schools of Traveller Gypsy and Roma culture by providing resources and INSET

Enable all Traveller Gypsy and Roma pupils to achieve their full potential in the educational process.

Haringey Education Authority has a duty to educate all children of statutory school age. It has a legal obligation to Travellers’ children and their parents. They have a right to education in a school of their choice. Travellers’ children have the right to experience full involvement in school and college life.
Haringey Council has a firm commitment to determined progress in making equal opportunities a reality for those who live and work in Haringey.
They will oppose discrimination on any grounds.Travellers’ children have a right of access to a curriculum which values their background and experience, equips them with the necessary skills for life in society and enables them to understand and make appropriate choices for themselves.
The learning needs of Travellers’ children are best served by educating them within the Borough’s existing schools and giving them appropriate support from the Haringey Traveller Education Team.
