Welcome to the website for Tetherdown school. We are a Community school serving our local area in Muswell Hill. A key element upon which the school depends for its success is a pervasive sense of community. The groups which make up the school community work hard to support and encourage the children in a wide variety of ways. Tetherdown benefits from dedicated teachers, committed support staff, motivated children, involved parents and a conscientious governing body. All these groups work in partnership to make their contributions to the life of the school with a clear focus on working together to give our children the best opportunities possible. We try to work with one simple rule in mind: Respect yourself; Respect other people. From this stems the highest expectation of children to take a positive attitude to their learning, to persevere in the face of difficulties and to support each other. If they are really trying their best in all aspects of their learning, then they will achieve with the support of staff (who work to the same rule themselves!) The other essential and characteristic element of Tetherdown is the breadth of the curriculum. Whilst there are priority subjects – such as Literacy and Numeracy – we aim to maintain breadth and balance in the curriculum so that the children have the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and interests in a more rounded way. The chance to ‘shine’ in Art or History gives pleasure and often helps improve self esteem which then helps children to persevere in areas where they are not so confident. The final and most important part of the ‘Tetherdown mix’ is fun. We aim to make lessons stimulating and enjoyable. We cannot guarantee every minute of every day is fun (no preparation for real life!) but we aim that children really will have many happy memories from Tetherdown of assemblies, concerts, dressing up days, outings, visits from theatre groups, workshops and some very special times with their friends and teachers.
